Canada exports almost 70% of its pork production and 50% of its beef production to more than 90 countries.
In 2022, Canadian farmers and food processors exported $9.5 billion dollars in red meat products, which includes pork, beef, lamb, and horse. As global per capita consumption of meat is expected to rise in the in the next 10 years, Canada’s opportunity to export red meat products will continue.
Trade enables an economic and environmentally sustainable sector. Different markets desire different products: cuts that may not be popular in Canada are sought-after elsewhere in the world. This permits our members to obtain a higher value for our product overall and reduce waste.
